This is their cookstove. I built the firewood box which doubles as a shelf and mounted the slab of limestone to increase the work surface and thermal mass. I also built the brick wall behind with the incorporated fieldstone.
IMG_3356
All along the back of the kitchen runs a shelf for pots and dishes. It is a steel frame with wood on top. It supports the curved steel rangehood over the stove, has an integrated pot rack and an LED strip running the entire length.
IMG_3357
Closeup of the range hood. The front panel was a second from the mill because it has a wrinkle in it. I buffed it with a wire wheel to enhance the effect.

Railing glass by imagicglass
_MG_2761
The railing is suspended off of 4″ cherry timbers. My dad made some MDF templates for the glass – which are scribed to the live edge of the timbers. imagicglass took the templates and made some impressive glass panels.

Island with footrest

The island top was made from maple and cherry offcuts from milling up the timbers for the house. The base is steel and hemlock.

This is my parents house. My parents designed the place and my dad and I cut most of the timbers on the property. The timber framing and Straw-Clay walls were done by Joshua Thornton and his crew (Thor’s Hammer).
